Yesterday I showed you my first attempt at this pose. Sometimes, instead of forcing myself to suffer through a painting that is just not working for me, it's easier to start again. This was my second attempt at the same pose and I'm very happy with it. I made all the mistakes with my previous sketch, and with that behind me, I was able to focus on only the necessities to capture the essence of the pose and the model. I wish I had a little more time for the hands, but I don't thing they would add too much more to this sketch.

After gaining some confidence with the sketch I posted yesterday, I tackled this one in the same way. Unfortunately, it did not go as well as I'd hoped. In retrospect, it didn't turn out as bad as it seemed to me in the thick of painting it. I figured I'd cut my losses ad start from scratch. Tune in tomorrow to see the result. (The green background was added later at home.)

This was a very quick sketch and about a minute or two into it I was not happy with that was happening with the watercolors. Knowing that I only have a few more minutes left in the pose, I went for my trusty graphite stick. I added the green background later at home (as I have been doing lately).

So in my new city of Portland, biking is like a religion. There are all sorts of bicycle related events throughout the year. One of the ones I have not had the privilege to experience yet is the Portland Naked Bike Ride. I read about it in a Portland guide I picked up a few weeks ago, and lo and behold, last week, Ariel busted out this pose at the Hipbone Studio. I had a pretty good drawing day, and was able to capture hints of her props (helmet and bike).
