I had to replenish my stock of paper and paints a week ago (the paints needed to be replenished for a number months now). Lucky for me Dick Blick was having a discount and free shipping on larger orders. I loaded up on a bunch of paper, and among them was a pad of 6x9 inch Strathmore Windpower watercolor paper. It's the same acid-free 140lb watercolor paper I love to use, but made using wind power. It costs about a dollar more than the regular pads but still lower than what you would pay at a retail store. It's a small, tiny, minuscule gesture I can make toward more sustainable art-making.

This was the actual a demo I did at Chuck Lukacs' painting class at PNCA this past Friday. Chuck had his students draw the same pose in pencil before I came in so they can follow along with me. I worked in stages, so the kids could keep up. I did a quick pencil drawing, and put down the first wash of English Venetian Red for the skin tone. Took a break to walk around the class to help out the struggling students. Then gathered them back up to show them the next step, cool washes of various blues and some greens that were reflecting from the cloth the model was sitting on. I wanted to do more on this, but walking around the class "helping out" makes you forget how fast time flies.

I could have been more descriptive with my title (as I usually tend to be) but in this instance I chose not to. I sat further back than I normally do for this session with Adolfo. This change of view/perspective allowed mt to pull back and get more of the figure onto the paper. Maybe the larger sheet helped as well.
