What a crazy year 2008 has been. Filled with highs and lows. Even with all the craziness and the uncertainty I still think that 2008 was largely better than 2007. And I'm optimistic that 2009 will prove to be better still. Here's hoping that I'm right, not just for myself, but for everyone else out there. For this painting of Pinkie Special I replaced my usual Permanent Carmine for the skin tone with a mixture of Cadmium Red and Yellow Ochre. The Blues and Violets in the skin were a return to my good old standby color, Ultramarine Blue.

Once again the I'm experimenting with colors in this painting of Candice. This is the closest I came to capturing her likeness. And the red and green colors in the flower seem appropriate for Christmas.

I was trying to experiment with some different colors for the drawings of Candice that I'm posting over the next few days. It's a lot tougher than it seems. I kept trying to veer toward my regular hues. I'll have to remove them from my palette next time I try this experiment. Also, that big, black background shape is actually Doug (his pants), in mime costume, standing behind Candice.

Candice was a new model at the Society of Illustrators Jazz and Sketch Sessions. She was a lot of fun to draw. Unfortunately, this painting is not the best likeness. I hope she comes back so I can have another go at it.
